President Nominee, Denise Harding, handed over a cheque for £750 to the Hospice of the Good Shepherd in Backford. This was part of the proceeds from the recent Dragon Boat Challenge 2016 event. Denise is seen here presenting the cheque to two nurses, one of whom helped to look after her husband who passed away in the hospice in October 2014. The hospice is undergoing a lot of changes at the moment as demand for their services increases. Improvements are being made to the daycare facilities as well as expansion to increase the number of beds. Philip Crawford, Community Fundraiser explained to Denise some of the services that the hospice provides which many people are not aware of such as bereavement counselling for children after the death of a parent. He thanked the members of Saughall Rotary for organising the event in which he had taken part. Philip said that the team from the hospice had really enjoyed taking part and he was surprised at how competitive they had become once they got into the boat! He said that he hoped that the Dragon Boat event would happen again and he thanked us for our continuing support.
