The weather was very kind to the 2nd Saughall Rotary Dragon Boat Event. The sun shone on 8 teams enthusiastically competing in 25 degrees of almost tropical heat!
The event, held at Manley Mere began at 10am. Each team competed in 3 heats and the 3 fastest competed in a direct shootout. This culminated in a hard fought final where the Greyhound Pub fought off the challenge of the Beech group and beat them to the post by a millisecond, Iceland came a close 3rd.
There was camaraderie and comradeship all around, the atmosphere was electric and there was a buzz around the Mere.
Crowds flocked in, brought out by the excellent weather, they appreciated the hard fought contest.
The real winners were the charities. Claire House, Hospice of the Good Shepherd, Warrington & Halton Hospital Trust and the DWF Trust will all benefit from the generosity of the family and friends of the teams who took part.
Finally one big thank you must go to Saughall Rotary who organised the event and managed the day efficiently.
